In a sweeping administrative shake-up ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) transferred 13 deputy commissioners (DCs) across key divisions and reshuffled officers-in-charge (OCs) at 50 police stations throughout the capital.

Both orders were issued on Thursday, bearing the signature of DMP Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali.

According to the directive, the following DCs have been reassigned to new posts until further notice: AFM Anowar Hossain, DC of City Research and Development Division, has been transferred to the Public Order Management (POM)-West Division; Maksedur Rahman, DC of Mirpur Division, to the Protection Division; Mohammad Shahriar Ali, DC of Motijheel Division, to Uttara Division; Mohammad Salauddin Sikdar, DC of City-Cyber Crime and Investigation Division, to Detective-Motijheel Division; Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikabdar, DC of the Detective-Cyber and Special Crime Division-North, to the Detective-Cyber and Special Crime Division-South; Mohiuddin Mahmud Sohel, DC of the Detective-Cyber and Special Crime Division-South, to the Detective-Mirpur Division; Moinul Haque, DC of the Protection Division, to Mirpur Division; Rounak Alam, DC of Welfare and Force Division, to Gulshan Division; Amir Khasru, DC of Detective-Ramna Division, to Headquarters and Administration Division; Mohammad Sanowar Hossain, DC of POM-West Division, to Traffic-Mirpur Division; Mohammad Harun Ur Rashid, DC of Wari Division, to Motijheel Division; Mollik Ahsan Uddin Sami, DC of Lalbagh Division, to Wari Division; and Tarek Mahmud, DC of Gulshan Division, to the Lalbagh Division.

In a separate notification issued the same day, DC (Supernumerary Additional DIG) Md Mahidul Islam of the DMP’s Uttara Division was transferred and appointed acting joint commissioner of the Crime Prevention Division.

Meanwhile, the DMP has also reshuffled the OCs of 50 police stations across Dhaka.

The order states that the listed unarmed police inspectors have been transferred or reassigned to the positions noted beside their names in the public interest, with immediate effect.

The move follows the recent selection of 527 new OCs nationwide through a lottery system.

In the process, selected officers were labeled as “proposed,” while metropolitan police stations were excluded from the lottery system.

Under the new postings, 98 OCs have been assigned across 13 districts in Dhaka Range; 111 across 11 districts in Chattogram Range; 64 across 10 districts in Khulna Range; 36 across 4 districts in Mymensingh Range; 46 across 6 districts in Barishal Range; 39 across 4 districts in Sylhet Range; 71 across 8 districts in Rajshahi Range; and 62 across 8 districts in Rangpur Range.

Police Headquarters also noted that the country has a total of 639 police stations, including 527 at the district level and 110 in metropolitan areas.

For metropolitan stations, OCs will continue to be appointed internally by their respective commissioners, rather than through the national lottery system.
