Government secondary school teachers have temporarily suspended their ongoing work abstention, clearing the way for annual examinations to resume from Wednesday.
Due to
the protest, scheduled annual exams could not be held in most schools across
the country for the past two days.
Teachers
under the banner of the Bangladesh Government Secondary Teachers’ Association
began their work stoppage on Monday (1 Dec), pressing for four demands,
including financial benefits and promotions.
As a
result, annual examinations were disrupted in schools across Dhaka and other
districts on Monday and Tuesday.
A visit
to Government Science High School in Dhaka’s Farmgate area on Tuesday afternoon
confirmed that annual exams for multiple classes had been cancelled.
Bangladesh
currently has around 700 government secondary schools, including more than 300
institutions that were recently nationalised.
According
to several sources, the exam boycott mainly affected long-established
government schools.
The
disruption has caused frustration and concern among parents whose children are
facing annual assessments.
