A man has confessed to a Dhaka court that he killed his wife and concealed her body in a sack at their Shahjahanpur residence in the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana on Tuesday recorded the statement of the accused, Ashiqur Rahman, under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and ordered that he be sent to jail.
Meanwhile, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam sent Ashiqur’s younger brother, Saiful Islam, to jail in connection with the case after rejecting his bail plea.
According to the case statement, Ashiqur, along with unidentified accomplices, allegedly killed his wife, Surubi Akter Mahfuza, on 3 November following long-standing marital disputes.
They then allegedly packed the body into a plastic sack and fled the next day.
Neighbours became suspicious as they noticed no movement inside the flat, prompting them to knock on the door repeatedly. When they managed to open it, they found the sack and informed police.
Nurul Haque, the victim’s father, filed a case with Shahjahanpur Police Station on 4 November.
