The interim government appointed new upazila nirbahi officers (UNO) to 77 upazilas across the country as part of efforts to reshuffle the administration ahead of the general elections in February.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued eight separate notifications in this regard on Monday.

The appointees have been instructed to join their new offices by Thursday afternoon, otherwise they will be released from their current workstations by default, the notifications read.

The UNOs would have to serve as executive magistrates in their respective areas under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedures.

As per the notifications, Dhaka Division will get 18 new UNOs, Rajshahi Division will get 14, Khulna Division will get 12, Rangpur Division will get 11, Sylhet Division will get 8, Chattogram Division will get 7, Barishal Division will get 4, and Mymensingh Division will get 3 new UNOs.
