An election candidate will lose candidacy without getting any show-cause notice if he/she violates the code of conduct ahead of the general elections in February, said Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam Sarkar on Monday.
Anwarul made the remark during a workshop on the potential challenges election workers could face during voting. The workshop was held at the Saira Garden in Narayanganj River Port area.
As soon as the poll schedule is announced, all the candidates will have to remove campaign posters, he said. The EC will take strict measures in this regard. A level-playing field for all candidates must be ensured, he noted.
The Election Commission will set up a monitoring cell to ensure law and order by coordinating with law enforcers and the administration, he added.
Magistrates will act promptly whenever an offence is noticed, he said. The general elections in February will be the best in the country’s history.
