Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed will retire on 27 December
and give his farewell speech to the lower court judges of the country on 14 December, said
an Appellate Division press release on Thursday.
The country’s 25th chief justice has reached the retirement
age of 67 years, the press release read.
On 10 August last year, Syed Refaat Ahmed was appointed as
the chief justice five days after the Awami League government was ousted in a
mass uprising. On 11 August, he took his oath of office.
On 14 December, he would address all the district judges, metropolitan
judges, chief judicial magistrates and chief metropolitan magistrates of the
country at the Supreme Court Auditorium to give his final speech.
In the speech, he would discuss the judicial reform measures
the judiciary has implemented over the past 1.5 years as part of his overhaul
plan. He would also shed light on future prospects over judicial reforms, the
press release noted.
