BNP grassroots leaders allegedly orchestrated an attack on the
convoy of party Vice Chairman Abdul Awal Mintoo in Dagonbhuiyan,
Feni on Thursday, leaving at least 10 people injured.
The attack took place at Zero Point in Dagonbhuiyan
municipality when Mintoo, BNP’s potential candidate for Feni-3, was on his way
to a campaign event.
Akbar Hossain, Mintoo’s younger brother and BNP’s
Dagonbhuiyan unit convener, claimed Chhatra Dal’s suspended leader Jamshedur
Rahman Fatik and his team carried out the attack at the behest of BNP’s
district-level leaders.
Talking to reporters, Fatik refuted the allegations, and instead
blamed Akbar Hossain’s team for launching the attack that left eight of his men
injured.
Akbar Hossain said Fatik’s supporters organised reception at
Zero Point to celebrate his recent release from prison. Fatik’s team blocked roads
at the intersection with sand-laden trucks. As the convoy of Mintoo reached the
area to reach the Tulatuli Bazar, it was blocked.
Police intervened and removed the sand trucks, allowing
Mintoo to continue his campaign trail. However, shortly afterwards, Fatik’s
team attacked the convoy to seek vengeance.
