BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed deep concern over the devastating fire that broke out at Korail slum in Dhaka’s Mohakhali on Tuesday.
“I extend my deepest sympathy to all families affected by this
dangerous fire. I firmly hope they will endure this difficult time with
patience,” he said.
The message came in a statement signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary
General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and circulated to the media on Tuesday night (25 Nov).
In the statement, Tarique said that a massive blaze engulfed Korail
slum and surrounding areas on Tuesday evening, making it extremely difficult
for firefighters to bring the flames under control.
“We still do not have a complete picture of the extent of the
damage, but many houses have reportedly been destroyed,” he added.
Tarique also expressed full solidarity with the relentless efforts
of Fire Service personnel and local residents who worked together to extinguish
the blaze.
“Their dedication has inspired the nation with new hope. I sincerely
pray that this terrible fire comes to a quick end and that no lives are lost,”
he said.
