The Ex-Forces Association (EFA) has demanded legal action against journalist Muktadir Rashid, accusing him of attempting to mislead the public and interfere in the judicial process surrounding the murder case of Major (Retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan.
In a statement issued on Tuesday signed by the organisation’s
president Lt Col (Retd) Saifullah Khan Saif, the EFA said that the journalist
has been making “deliberate and misleading remarks” about the court verdict and
judicial proceedings, which they claim is an effort to “undermine the justice
system.”
According to the EFA statement, “Spreading misinformation about a sensitive
and sub judice case is an affront to the court and amounts to obstructing
justice. Such comments, made in defense of convicted individuals, cannot be
accepted under any circumstances.”
The organisation further said that the verdict in the Sinha murder
case was delivered “based on concrete evidence,” and that “baseless propaganda”
and “biased commentary” are eroding public trust in the justice system.
Calling on the government to intervene, the EFA said, “Insulting the
judiciary or spreading confusion among the public weakens the state structure.
Such acts should be treated as tendencies against the interests of the state.”
The association also alleged that the statements made by journalist
Muktadir Rashid amount to “an act akin to sedition,” and said he should be
brought before the court to answer for his remarks.
The EFA further said that any attempt to influence the judiciary would
be dealt with under the law.
“Those who engage in misinformation campaigns will face appropriate
action,” the statement added.
Reaffirming its stance, the organisation said that the trial of the Major Sinha murder case “will proceed strictly according to the law” and “no pressure or confusion can obstruct the course of justice.”
