Advisory Council approves referendum ordinance

The Advisory Council has approved the referendum ordinance, clearing the final hurdle for holding the upcoming 13th parliamentary election.

The approval came at a meeting on Tuesday with Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus in the chair.

The move follows the council’s earlier endorsement of the Referendum Act on 20 November. The referendum aims to gather public opinion on the reform proposals put forward by the National Consensus Commission.

Since a legal instrument was required to conduct the vote, the government had indicated that the ordinance would be finalised within a few working days. Tuesday’s special session of the Advisory Council was convened to confirm that approval.
