Bangladeshi man shot dead by Indian Khasis at Sylhet border

A Bangladeshi man was shot dead by Indian Khasi nationals near the Luvachora border in Sylhet’s Kanaighat upazila, police confirmed on Sunday.
The deceased, identified as Jamal Uddin, 45, was the son of the late
Mokarram Ali from Kandala Banglatila village in Kanaighat.
According to local residents, Jamal Uddin left home on Saturday
afternoon. Around 11pm, his bullet-hit body was found lying near the Luvachora
border, close to Bhalukmara village.
Locals immediately informed the police, who later recovered the body
and transported it to the police station early Sunday morning.
Kanaighat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Abdul Awal confirmed
the incident.
Quoting preliminary findings, he said Jamal had crossed into India
and entered a betel nut plantation, where he was reportedly shot by members of
the Indian Khasi community.
He later succumbed to his injuries after returning to the Bangladesh
side of the border.
The body has been sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital
for autopsy, the OC added.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
