In a special anti-mugging operation, the Rapid Action Battelion (RAB-2) has arrested Mohammad Jony, alias “Roktochosha (Bloodsucker) Jony”, a mugger committing crimes in the capital’s Mohammadpur area.
The arrest
was made late Thursday night, during which a locally made samurai sword used in
mugging incidents was recovered from his possession.
According
to a press briefing chaired by Additional DIG Md Khalidul Haq Hawlader, the
32-year-old Jony is the ringleader of a 23-member gang "Roktochosha
Group" involved in mugging, extortion and drug-related crimes across
Mohammadpur and nearby areas.
The
elite force said that Jony often attacked victims with sharp weapons, leaving
them critically injured which earned the nickname, “Roktochosha" for his
alleged barbaric behaviour.
RAB
officials said the arrest followed increased surveillance after Jony’s
associates allegedly attacked a tea seller named Habibullah on 4 October over a
bill payment dispute.
Acting
on intelligence, a RAB-2 team conducted a raid at an empty plot owned by Baitul
Builders Ltd.
There,
Jony was detained with the samurai sword.
During
primary interrogation, Jony reportedly confessed to threatening and robbing
pedestrians with machetes, knives and other local weapons.
Law
enforcers also confirmed that five cases, including charges related to
narcotics, weapons, and attempted murder are already pending against him at
Mohammadpur Police Station and legal proceedings are underway.
