Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Tuesday officially launched the “Postal Vote BD” mobile app, allowing expatriates and on-duty election workers to cast ballots in the February general elections.

“The app is a historic addition to Bangladesh’s democratic process. It would allow expatriate voters to cast ballots, a right they could not enjoy for years despite getting registered,” AMM Nasir Uddin said at the launching event held at the Election Commission Headquarters, Agargaon in the capital.

The Election Commission has prepared the app within only three months, after completing all the challenging cybersecurity measures, the chief election commissioner said.

Now, the arduous task is to familiarise the app to the Bangladeshis spread across the world, AMM Nasir Uddin said, urging all to assist in the process.

Expatriates from over 150 foreign countries can vote through the app, he noted.
