The interim government has asserted it would continue reform-related activities and other policymaking tasks in full swing until the elected administration assumes power, rejecting the information adviser’s claim that the works would wrap up in November.
The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing issued a statement on Monday, stating that some confusions surfaced following media reports on comments on the government works made by Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam on Sunday.
Speaking at a “Meet the Reporters” event organised by the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) at its Segunbagicha auditorium, Mahfuj said the government’s regular meetings would end in November, and therefore, there is only one month left for the interim administration to complete reform works.
“We will not be able to proceed after November because the cabinet will no longer sit once the Election Commission takes charge to prepare for the February polls,” he said.
However, in light of the adviser’s comments it is incorrect to think that the government’s works on adopted reform measures and policymaking must be concluded in November, the chief adviser’s press wing noted.
Rather these tasks would continue in full swing, it added.
The advisory council, the body of de facto ministers in the interim government, would also continue its regular works and regular meetings until handing over power to the elected government, the statement read.
