DU observes 49th death anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam

Dhaka University on Wednesday observed the 49th death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam with due respect and solemnity through various programmes on the campus.

In the morning, DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan, along with teachers, students, officials, and employees, placed wreaths at the poet’s grave beside the university mosque and offered prayers.

Later, a discussion was held on the open stage adjacent to the poet’s tomb, with the Vice-Chancellor in the chair.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan said the life and literary works of Kazi Nazrul Islam inspire people to stand against injustice. “His writings teach us to uphold equality, harmony, and peace through unity. Nazrul was a man of multidimensional genius, and his works will remain a source of inspiration for generations,” he added.

Retired Professor of the Bangla Department Dr Syed Mohammad Shahed delivered the commemorative lecture, while Bangla Department Chairman Prof Dr Sirajul Islam (Siraj Salekeen) conducted the programme.

Teachers and students of the Music Department also performed Nazrul Sangeet at the event, adding a cultural dimension to the observance.
