A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight en route to London from Sylhet made an emergency landing in Istanbul on Thursday after a passenger fell seriously ill mid-air.
The flight (BG 201) departed Sylhet for London in the morning.
A passenger identified as Shah Shamsun Nehar Rahman became critically unwell, prompting the flight crew to take immediate action.
Assessing the urgency of the situation, the pilot-in-command declared a medical emergency and diverted the aircraft to Istanbul for an emergency landing, Biman said in a press release.
Upon arrival in Istanbul, the ill passenger and two accompanying travellers disembarked from the aircraft to receive necessary medical attention.
Biman authorities reaffirmed their commitment to prioritising passenger safety and well-being, and said standard procedures were followed in handling the mid-air emergency.
