Major fire erupts in Sajek, guts 10 resorts

A major fire broke out at the tourism hotspot of Sajek Valley, Bandarban, on Monday noon razing to the ground at least 10 resorts as well as eateris and tourist cottages.

The army, BGB, police and locals are working to douse the flames, but about three hours into the fire incident the situation remains out of control.

The fire service was yet to reach the spot.

Local Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shirin Akter told reporters the fires erupted around 12pm in or around a resort named “Obokash” and rapidly spread to nearby areas.

Md Shahin, a resort owner, said at least 30 resorts have been damaged or destroyed in the flames.

The firefighters joined the rescue operations later as there is no unit in Sajek Valley, and one was called in from Dighinala. The team is yet to reach the spot.
