The government has renamed five Bangladesh Coast Guard vessels, four of which were previously named after the four national leaders, while another named ‘Joy Bangla’ has been renamed ‘Adommo Bangla’.
The decision was disclosed in a letter issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday.
Under the revised names, ‘BCGS Tajuddin’ has been renamed ‘BCGS Nurul Islam’, while ‘BCGS Syed Nazrul’ has been renamed ‘BCGS Firoz Kabir’. Similarly, ‘BCGS Mansur Ali’ will now be known as ‘BCGS M Humayun Kabir’, and ‘BCGS Kamruzzaman’ has been renamed ‘BCGS Ashraf Siddiqui’.
Meanwhile, the vessel previously named ‘BCGS Joy Bangla’ has been renamed ‘BCGS Adommo Bangla’, according to the letter.
The vessels were previously named after four national leaders and the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’. The ministry had earlier instructed the Coast Guard to change the names of the vessels.
Following the directive, the Coast Guard submitted proposals for five new names, which were approved by the ministry on 5 November, according to sources at the Home Ministry.
