Addressing the INDIA bloc’s mega rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on Sunday, Indian Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “stealing votes” and said legal action would be taken against him.
He asserted that the Opposition would continue its fight to ensure accountability and justice.
The removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar would be the first step towards restoring the country’s democratic institutions, Rahul added.
Earlier, senior INDIA bloc leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav and Mamata Banerjee, marched in an open bus from Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence to the venue for the rally, which demanded the removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral irregularities. The rally drew supporters and party workers from across the capital.
"Gyanesh Kumar will be removed as CEC, he will go to jail. This is not voice of one party or leader; this is voice of India's youth, women, farmers, workers," said the Leader of the Opposition.
Rahul further said, “Amit Shah says Narendra Modi will not go anywhere. We are saying we will not let him go anywhere. We will take legal action against you and country will seek justice for this vote chori.”
Tens of thousands joined the protest, renewing demands for the country's election chief to resign over an overhaul of voter lists they say unfairly benefits the ruling party.
The nationwide revision of electoral rolls has sparked political disputes and street protests in the world's largest democracy over the last month.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), an online youth-led protest movement, has also thrown its weight behind the opposition campaign.
The protests and growing support for the opposition form the worst crisis for Modi since he came to power in 2014, though his government remains stable and the next general election is not due until 2029.
Authorities tightened security and warned of traffic diversions before protesters began a march from central Delhi to the designated rally site, where thousands had already assembled.
Hundreds of security personnel, some of them carrying batons and shields and accompanied by riot-control vehicles, surrounded the historic Ramlila Maidan ground as hundreds of people, many waving national and party flags, began moving towards it.
Meanwhile, India’s Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday launched a blistering attack on Rahul Gandhi, questioning his leadership, political ambitions and the party's electoral prospects while setting the tone for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections in 2027.
Addressing a gathering in Chandigarh, Shah took a swipe at Rahul Gandhi's 'Mohabbat Ki Dukaan' slogan, alleging that the Congress leader was spreading hatred instead of love.
"Rahul ji, you will find nothing but hatred in your shop of love," Shah said, turning one of Gandhi's prominent political slogans into an attack on the Congress leadership.
"Rahul Gandhi wants to become Prime Minister, and that is why he has found a new way by organising a mock Parliament. Rahul ji, you can continue to remain Prime Minister in your mock Parliament. Your dream of becoming the Prime Minister of the country, however, will not be fulfilled," Shah said.
