No political identity for criminals: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir on Tuesday directed police officers to take strict legal action against drug traffickers, terrorists and extortionists, saying party affiliation should not be a consideration.

“There is no scope to consider political identity. A criminal’s only identity is that he is a criminal,” he said at the monthly crime review meeting for August at Police Headquarters.

He also asked field-level officers to take proper legal  action against juvenile offenders, reaffirmed the police’s “zero tolerance” policy on drugs and called for greater public participation through community policing.

The IGP asked officers to ensure comprehensive security for the upcoming Durga Puja and take steps to check rumours and propaganda.
