‘Vote ‘Yes’ to prevent return of fascism’

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday called on voters to back a “Yes” vote in the upcoming referendum and support the Sheaf of Paddy, the party’s electoral symbol, in the 12 February national election to safeguard the country’s development.
Addressing a roadside rally in Jagannathpur Union of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila, Fakhrul said, “We want reform and change in the system of one-person rule. So we all will vote ‘Yes’ and for the Sheaf of Paddy to prevent the return of fascism in the country.”
He described the Sheaf of Paddy as a symbol of development, adding that five million mothers would be provided with family cards in line with directives from Tarique Rahman if the BNP returns to power in the next general election.

“Farmers’ cards will also be issued, through which they will receive fertiliser, seeds and water at fair prices,” he said.
Fakhrul further pledged that agricultural loans up to Tk10,000, including interest, would be fully waived, and debts taken by mothers from NGOs would be cleared.  He also promised to create employment for 10 million unemployed citizens within the next 18 months.
Addressing the Hindu community, he said, “There are no minorities here – we are all equal citizens. Stand up for your rights. BNP has always supported you and will continue to do so.”
