Hasina's announcement to return this year another act of hypocrisy: Sohel Taj

Former state minister for home affairs Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj has described former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's reported pledge to return to Bangladesh this year as "another act of hypocrisy."

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Sohel Taj claimed that Sheikh Hasina and her family had destroyed the Awami League through "mass killings, enforced disappearances, murders, corruption, the destruction of democracy and the misuse of the spirit of the Liberation War."

He alleged that after fleeing the country and amassing vast wealth abroad through corruption and money laundering, Sheikh Hasina is now calling for a return to the country while exposing "innocent Awami League leaders and activists" to danger.

The former state minister said the Awami League is unlikely to return to mainstream politics in the near future unless it engaged in self-criticism and introspection.
