The solo play “Vasane Ujan” is set to be staged at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy this evening. The 11th performance of the play will be held at 7:00 pm at the Studio Theatre Hall of the academy.
Based on Fyodor Dostoevsky’s short story “The Gentle Spirit”, the play has been written by Apurba Kumar Kundu. It is directed by Subhashish Dutta Tanmoy. Actor Md Ershad Hasan, who has been receiving attention in the contemporary theatre scene, will appear on stage as the sole performer throughout the production.
Built around a single actor, the production explores the turmoil of the human inner world, loneliness, love, the complexities of relationships, and profound existential crisis. Through voice, physical expression, emotion, and multifaceted acting, the solo performer creates an expansive theatrical world on stage. As a result, “Vasane Ujan” has emerged as a unique and distinctive theatrical experience for the audience.
The story of the play brings forward characters such as Ashraf Boari, Sabrina, and Jabbar Khandaker, along with the various tensions and complexities within their relationships. Through solo acting, the play attempts to express the multifaceted emotions of a person’s inner world and struggles in life.
The stage and lighting design is by Palash Henry Sen; music by Md Hamidur Rahman Pappu; makeup by Subhashish Dutta Tanmoy; costume by Enam Tara Saki; props by Fazle Rabbi Sukarno; and choreography by Robin Basak.
The previous performances of “Vasane Ujan” have also generated interest among audiences and within the theatre community.
