Teachers seek nationalisation of education

A new grand alliance has emerged comprising 30 teachers’ organisations for holding movement with various demands including nationalisation of all MPO-affiliated educational institutions across the country.

The new alliance was announced at a press conference in Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Friday making Bangladesh Non-Govt Teachers-Employees Forum President principal Md Main uddin as convener of the alliance.

Bangladesh Teachers Association’s General Secretary Jasim Uddin Ahmed, in a written statement, said teachers and employees do not get retirement welfare allowance even after 3-4 years of their retirement and many of them died without getting the benefits on time.

Apart from this, the teachers and staffs of the MPO-affiliated institutions are deprived from various government facilities including transfer and promotion. 

 The committee system should be abolished and the MPO-listed educational institutions should be run like government educational institutions,   he also demanded

The application for nationalisation has already been submitted to the Prime Minister, Finance Minister, Education Minister, Finance Secretary and Education Secretary.

Only the political decision of the present government can nationalise the MPO-affiliated institutions, he said adding that “Strict movement will be announced if the demand is not met by November 30 this year.”


There are 39,092 MPO-listed educational institutions across the country.
