15 die of corona in Rangpur

RANGPUR: Fifteen more people died of Covid-19 during the last 24 hours ending at 8:00 am on Saturday raising the total number of casualties to 822 in the division.

According to health officials, the number of Covid-19 cases also climbed to 39,146 with diagnosis of 326 positive cases afresh in the division on Friday, reports BSS.

"The Covid-19 situation continues deteriorating amid rising causality rate in the division," Focal Person of the Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui said on Saturday.

 The 15 new casualties were reported from Rangpur, Panchagarh, Nilphamari, Kurigram, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur districts in the division.

 "A total of 348 Covid-19 patients, the highest number in a month since June 23 last, died in Rangpur division," he said.

 The district-wise breakup of the 822 fatalities stands at 169 in Rangpur, 254 in Dinajpur, 157 in Thakurgaon, 63 in Nilphamari, 45 in Kurigram, 49 in Panchagarh, 38 in Gaibandha and 47 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.

"The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.10 percent, the highest ever fatality rate since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in the division," Dr Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases hastily reached 39,146 as 326 new patients were diagnosed after testing 1,290 samples of Rangpur division at the positivity rate of 25.27 percent on Friday.

"The district-wise break up of 39,146 infected patients stands at 8,577 in Rangpur, 2,169 in Panchagarh, 3,036 in Nilphamari, 2,048 in Lalmonirhat, 2,869 in Kurigram, 5,439 in Thakurgaon, 11,703 in Dinajpur and 3,305 in Gaibandha of the division," he said.

Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said a total of 1,99,116 collected samples were tested till Friday, and of them, 39,146 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 19.66 percent in the division. 

Meanwhile, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 29,232 with recovery of 343 more infected patients on Friday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 74.67 percent.

The 29,232 recovered patients include 6,097 of Rangpur, 1,191 of Panchagarh, 2,424 of Nilphamari, 1,492 of Lalmonirhat, 1,920 of Kurigram, 3,836 of Thakurgaon, 10,143 of Dinajpur and 2,129 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Among the 39,146 infected patients, 527 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 24 critical patients at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 29,232 patients and 822 deaths while 8,932 are remaining in home isolation.

"Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine rose to 7,34,419, and among them, 3,89,508 got the second dose of the jab till Friday in the division," Dr Islam added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu expressed concern over the deteriorating Covid-19 situation in the division.

"Everyone should strictly abide by the health directives, hygiene rules, maintain physical distance and make the ongoing strict lockdown successful to remain safe and keep others safe as the positivity rate still continues rising in the division," he added.
