Ctg shops, restaurants asked to shut at 6pm

CHATTOGRAM: All shops, shopping malls and restaurants in Chattogram district have been asked to close at 6pm every day in an effort to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The district administration issued a notice on Friday in this regard. As per the notice, the order will remain in force until April 14.

However, medicine and grocery shops and kitchen markets will remain outside the purview of the restriction.

Meanwhile, Senior District Election Officer Ataur Rahman Khan died of coronavirus at a private hospital in Dhaka early Friday. He was 45.

He breathed his last at Shahabuddin Medical College Hospital around 2am, said Chattogram Regional Election Officer Md Hasanuzzaman.

Ataur was admitted to Kurmitola General Hospital on March 29 after being infected with coronavirus.

He was shifted to Shahabuddin Medical College Hospital on Thursday evening and taken to the intensive care unit where he lost his battle for life.

Besides, 518 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Chattogram in the last 24 hours till Friday morning, highest single-day tally in the district since the first case was detected on April 3 last year.

Till Friday, a total of 40,801 people have been infected with coronavirus while 389 died from the virus in the district.
