Badal Roy, one of the three president-aspirants of the much-awaited Bangladesh Football Federation election and congress, submitted a letter on Saturday for withdrawal from the race an hour after the deadline for withdrawal.
The election will be held on October 3 at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital.Today (Saturday) was the last day of withdrawal of the nomination paper and the last time was 5:00pm.
“I had withdrawn my name from the election due to my health as I am ill and my family members and close relatives don’t want me to do the election with his physical condition,” Badal Roy told media.
“I am not going to support Manik and to be honest I am not interested to be part of any football activity in the future,” he said, who had submitted the letter after the time was over to withdraw name of the candidates.
Apart from this, two candidates – Zakir Hossain Babul of Uttar Baridhara Club and Saidur Rahman Manik of Ajampur Football Club also withdrew their nomination paper from member post.
The withdrawal of nomination paper by three candidates means forty six candidates will now contest in the election.
The election commission will publish the final candidate list tomorrow (Sunday) at 3:00pm.In the president post, former national football and coach Shafiqul Islam Manik will compete against incumbent president Kazi Salahuddin.
On the other hand, seating senior vice president Abdus Salam Murshedy, who was elected uncontested in the last BFF election, this time he will face a challenge as celebrated footballer Sheikh Mohammad Aslam stood in Murshedy’s way.
There are also hints in the competitive battle for the posts of senior vice president. Although there are four posts of vice president, eight candidates will now contest for the four vice president post.
New face and Bashundhara King’s president Imrul Hasan already proved himself as a successful organiser and everyone wants a successful organiser like Imrul to come forward for the development of football.
