Enhancement of fish farming stressed

RANGPUR: Officials and experts at a function have stressed on enhancing fish production to meet nutrition of the people and strengthen their immune systems in the wake of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, reports BSS.

They viewed this at the function arranged by Hakimpur Upazila Fisheries Department on the upazila parishad premises in Dinajpur district for releasing 400 kg of fish fries in 15 water bodies on Wednesday afternoon.

The function was arranged with participation of a limited number of fish farmers, hatchery owners and government officials strictly marinating physical distance and health directives of the government to prevent community transmission of Covid-19.

Divisional Commissioner Md. Abdul Wahab Bhuiyan attended the function and released fingerlings in a government pond of the upazila as the chief guest with Hakimpur upazila parishad Chairman Harun Ar Rashid Harun in the chair.

Deputy Commissioner of Dinajpur Mahmudul Hasan, Hakimpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdur Rafiul Alam and municipal Mayor Jamil Hossain Cholonto and District Fisheries Officer (DFO) Dr SM Rezaul Karim attended the event as special guests.

Hakimpur Upazila Fisheries Officer Ummey Habiba delivered a welcome speech and said that Bangladesh has already achieved self-sufficiency in fish and continues increasing its production to the tune of one lakh tonnes on an average annually in recent years.
