Law Minister Anisul Huq on Sunday urged lower court judges to discharge their duties professionally to ensure speedy justice for people.
“Judges are independent according to the constitution. But it should be kept in mind that people start expressing doubts if justice is delayed,” he said.Anisul Huq made the remarks while addressing the inaugural event of a five-day orientation course virtually for new judges of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunals at Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) in the capital. JATI Director General Justice Khondker Musa Khaled presided over the event which was also addressed by Law and Justice Division Secretary Md Golam Sarwar and JATI Director Md Golam Kibria.
The law minister said the government has plans to clear six lakh cases from its existing backlog within this year, but the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has hampered implementation of the plan. Seeking help from the judges in this regard, the law minister said the nation hopes that they will be able to finish their tasks on time.
A total of 35 trainees are taking part in the five-day course.
