ACC presses charge against ex-Satkhira civil surgeon

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday submitted a charge sheet against nine people, including former civil surgeon of Satkhira Dr Towhidur Rahman, on charges of embezzling Tk16.71 crore.

The anti-graft body’s deputy director Md Jahangir Alam, also investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to a Special Judges Court in Satkhira, said ACC Director (Media) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee.

The other accused are Civil surgeon’s office accountants AKM Fazlul Haque and Anwar Hossain, Bengal Scientific and Surgical Co proprietor Jaher Uddin Sarker, Mercantile Trade International’s two owners Md Abdus Sattar Sarker, Ahsan Habib and its Manager Kazi Abu Bakar Siddique, Universal Trade Corporation proprietor Ashadur Rahman, and former assistant engineer AHM Abdus Quddus.

Earlier on July 9 last year, ACC deputy assistant director M Jalal Uddin filed the graft case.        

The accused, in collusion with each other, made three fake bills showing purchase of medical equipment for Satkhira General Hospital and upazila health complexes in the district without any demand letters, according to case statement.

The accused withdrew over Tk 16.71 crore by making the three fake bills.
