The holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi, the day of birth and demise of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PHUH), was observed in the country on Sunday with due religious solemnity.
On this day in 570, the 12th of Rabiul Awal of the Hijri calendar, Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was born in Makkah, Saudi Arabia with divine blessings and messages of peace for mankind.
The day was a public holiday. The Muslims across the country offered special prayers in the day.
Different social, cultural, religious, spiritual and political organisations and different state-run organisations, including the Islamic Foundation, chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day.
President hosted a milad-mahfil at Bangabhaban where Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah along with cabinet members, election commissioner, Supreme Court and High Court judges, state ministers, cabinet secretary, chiefs of three services, principal secretary to the Prime Minister, vice-chancellors of different universities, diplomats of different Muslim countries, MPs, political leaders, secretaries of different ministries and high civil and military officials attended.
Ashikan-e Gaushiya Rahmania Mainiya Sahidia Maizbhandaria organised a seminar marking the day where Information Minister Hasan Mahmud and former state minister Shamshul Hoque Tuku were present.
Islamic Foundation took a fortnight programme at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the city on the day.
A month-long Islamic book fair is being organised on the mosque premises to mark the birth and death anniversary of the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).
Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) organised a Milad Mahfil at the commission, marking the day where BPSC chairman Dr Mohammad Sadiq and others officials attended.
Thousands of Muslims of different spiritual and social organisations like the Maizbhandar Darbar and other spiritual hubs took out procession across the country chanting praising the prophet for his role for the mankind.
Zaker Party organised a programme marking the holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi. It also celebrated party’s 30th founding anniversary in the day, a press release said.
Zaker Party Chairman Pirzada Mostafa Amir Faisal was present in the programme as the chief guest while party’s senior Vice-Chairman Dr Saim Amir Faisal presided over it.
In his speech, Zaker Party chairman urged the Muslims to be united.
Discussions on Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), milad and doa mahfil also held at various upazilas marking the day.
Tight security measures were taken by the law enforcement agencies across the country to ensure a peaceful celebration of Eid-e-Miladunnabi.
Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television and private TV channels aired special programmes while newspapers published special articles highlighting the significance of the day.
Meanwhile, the holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi (SM) was observed with due solemnity at Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Mumbai on Sunday.
On this occasion, the Deputy HC held a discussion, doa, milad mahfil and special munajat.
Expatriate Bangladeshis living in Mumbai, local notables, officers and workers of the Deputy HC and their family members attended the programme.
