CHITTAGONG: Newly elected Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin said he would work with honesty, sincerity and accountability to discharge responsibilities the city dwellers entrusted him with and fulfill electoral pledges.
He made the commitment at a warm reception accorded to him at Shah Amanat International Airport, Chittagong in the city on Saturday afternoon.
Nagorik Committee, Chittagong organised the colourful reception ceremony when AJM Nasir Uddin arrived at the airport after taking oath as the CCC mayor.
Addressing the reception ceremony Mayor Nasir Uddin said, “I would fulfill all the commitments I made before the CCC election.” “I had talk with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who nominated him as mayor candidate. She (the prime minister and ruling Awami League Chief) has done a lot for development of Chittagong so far. She wants to get the rest of the development works of Chittagong done through me,” said Mayor Nasir seeking blessing and cooperation from all in this regard.
“We all know the problems of Chittagong. The problems would be solved on priority basis through united efforts by all,” said Mayor Nasir.
Ruling AL lawmakers MA Latif, Shamsul Haque Chowdhury and Didarul Alam, AL Chittagong north district unit President Nurul Alam, AL Chittagong south district unit President Moslem Uddin Ahmed, General Secretary Mafizur Rahman, AL Chittagong city unit Vice-President Ibrahim Hossain Chowdhury Babul and Secretary for Law Affairs Advocate Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury were present at the reception.
Earlier newly elected CCC Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin landed at the air port by a flight of US Bangla Air that left Dhaka at 3:20am.
Immediate after arrival he came upon the temporary dais set up for his reception at the airport at 4:30 amid cheers of leaders, activists of AL and its front organisations and supporters gathered there in several hundred motorbikes and with motorcades.
Mentionable, after being elected a CCC Mayor in April 28 CCC election AJM Nasir along with his family met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganobhaban on May 3. He took oath on May 6 and visited the Shrine of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara in Gopalganj district on May 7 before returning home yesterday (May 9, 2015).
