DSCC announces Tk 36.31bn budget for FY 2019-20

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Sunday announced a Tk 36.31 billion (3631.40 crore) budget for the fiscal year (FY) 2019-20.

South City Mayor Sayeed Khokon announced the budget at a press conference  at Nagar Bhaban auditorium.

He also announced the revised budget for the FY 2018-19 which stood at Tk1902.95 crore while the proposed budget was Tk 3,598.7 crore.

Of the amount, the DSCC projected to collect a total of Tk 972.80 crore as revenue.

 The city corporation is also expecting to get Tk 2448.93 crore as government and foreign assistances for different projects. Income from other expenditure is estimated to be around Tk 3.50 crore

The mayor said that the city corporation will allocate Tk 43.30 crore to control mosquito in the city which is the highest ever disbursement in the sector. “In the upcoming year, we will be aware from the very beginning so that dengue cannot turn intense. We will make the citizen aware too”, said the mayor

Citing various development activities, Khokon said that the development done in last four years was never done in the past. “ I can claim -- DSCC is now a changed city in the weave of development”,  he said in his budget speech.

In the current year, dengue has broken out in the city along with other parts of the country. DSCC officials are now working to control mosquito menace targeting the first week of September. The number of dengue patients is on the down trend, he also said.

We will open a separate department to have search on mosquito control, select pesticide in the line with its types and species and more manpower will be employed.  To do all these we have a five year term plan, said the mayor.

The mayor also claimed, “Now 90 percent of the road of DSCC is suitable for smooth movement.  Footpath, drains are renovated and modernized. Road medians are beautified with flowers and planting trees. City parks and playgrounds once turned as dens of drug dealers now are adorned with esthetic beauty under Jol Shobuje Dhaka project.” The mayor also announced to construct an old home for senior citizens who remain neglected in their family. “There are many old people who have to live on footpath or railway stations after being abandoned by their family members, which is very unfortunate. We are going to construct a temporary old home in DSCC area for these people,” he said.

In the budget the earning is set Tk 972.80 crore and earning the government and foreign aid is tk 2448.93 crore and income from other expenditure is Tk 3.50 crore.
