The Directorate of National Consumer Right Protection (DNCRP) on Thursday fined Padma General Hospital Tk 50,000 for charging patients higher than the government-fixed rates for dengue tests.

It also fined Mostofa Surgical, located beside BMA Bhaban on Topkhana road, Tk 1 lakh for selling dengue kits at higher prices.

DNCRP deputy director (Dhaka division) Manjur Mohammad Shahriar led the drive. Assistant directors Afroza Rahman and Abdul Jabbar Mondal were also present.

Sources said DNCRP officials exchanged views with several hospital authorities and surgical shops beside Padma General Hospital and Mostofa Surgical. They advised them to take the price fixed by the government.

Talking to the daily sun, DNCRP assistant director Abdul Jabbar Mondal said, “The operation was carried out as part of our regular activities.” He said, “Like other government institutions, we are committed to preventing dengue. We are taking steps in accordance with the law. We are holding meetings with the owners and officials of hospitals, pharmacies and companies that sell dengue-related medicines.”
