A two-day workshop on strategic planning for high tech agriculture education and research in Bangladesh began at a city hotel on Monday.
University Grants Commission (UGC), Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) jointly organised the workshop.UGC Chairman Prof Dr Kazi Shahidullah was present as the chief guest while BAU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Lutful Hassan gave the welcome remarks. Dr Monjurul Alam of BAU presented a key note paper on challenges and opportunities for high tech agriculture in the workshop.
UGC chairman said it is high time to revamp agricultural education and training. He also said universities should strengthen curriculums, institutional capacity and their links with industry to support young, high-tech agropreneurs.
Addressing as the special guest Manmohan Parkash, Country Director of ADB, said ADB is keen to help high tech agriculture education for transforming Bangladesh’s agricultural sector and human resources.
UGC Members Prof Dr Md Akhtar Hossain, Prof Dr Dil Afroza Begum, Prof Dr Md Sazzad Hossain and Prof Dr Muhammed Alamgir were also present at the event.
