23rd Nat’l Art Exhibition begins at Shilpakala Academy

Guests are seen at the inaugural ceremony of 23rd National Art Exhibition at BSA in the capital on Monday.

The 23rd National Art Exhibition began at the National Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Monday.

Organised by Department of Fine Arts of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, the exhibition is featuring a total of 322 artworks by 310 artists.

The inaugural ceremony of the exhibition was held at National Art Gallery of BSA on Monday at 05:00pm. Political Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister H T Imam  inaugurated the exhibition as the chief guest, while ex-Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, State Minister For Cultural Affairs K M Khalid and artist Monirul Islam attended on the occasion as special guests.  Chaired by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Director General  Liaquat Ali Lucky, BSA Fine Arts Department Director Ashraful Alam  Paplu delivered the welcome speech.  

A total of 8 persons and organisations from this year’s participants also received prizes. The prizes include a best prize (Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Award) worth Tk 200,000 (2 lakhs). Artist Kamruzzaman has received this award. And four departmental prizes for artwork, sculpture, print illustration and new media worth Tk 100,000 (1lakh) each. Artists Rafat Ahmed Badhon, Tanvir Mahmud, Ruhul Karim Rumi, Shahid Kazi received the awards respectively. On the other hand, artists Uttam Kumar Talukdar, Sumon Wahid and Faria Khan Tuli have received Bengal Foundation award (Tk 100,000), Dipa Haque award (Tk 20,000) and Artist Kazi Anwar Hossain Award (Tk 50,000) respectively. 

The 23rd edition of this exhibition is featuring 322 artworks by 310 artists, who were selected from a total number of 850 applicants. During the 21-day exhibition, a total of 159 paintings, 45 sculptures, 50 print illustrations, 17 craftworks, 8 pottery-crafts, 37 architectural and video arts and 7 performance art pieces will be on display.

The primary selection committee comprised with notable artists including Nasrin Begum, Mostafizul Haque, Sheikh Sadi Bhuiyan, Dr. Md Iqbal and Anisuzzaman. The final selection committee for selecting the best artworks featured artist Abdus Shakur Shah, Architect Shamsul Wares, Artist Ranajit Das, artist Dr. Farida Jaman and artist Mohammad Yunus.

To note: the exhibition was first organised by BSA back in 1975.

The 23rd edition will continue till 21st July, every day from 11 pm to 8 pm and 3 pm to 8 pm on Friday.
