BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday reiterated their demand of release of the party chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail immediately for better treatment.

‘She (Khaleda Zia) will have to be released from jail immediately for better treatment.  The government is showing an inhuman attitude towards Khaleda Zia by depriving her of her legal rights. It’s also tantamount to violating the constitution and violation of human rights,’ he said.

The BNP leader came up with the statements while addressing a press conference at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office in the capital in the morning.

In his speech, Fakhrul also claimed that the government is trying to kill their chairperson in jail by resorting to various tricks.

Claiming Khaleda Zia in ‘critical condition’, the BNP leader said can’t leave her bed and can’t move her both hands.

Mirza Fakhrul questioned, do they (government) want to kill her in jail without treatment?

Besides, he also warned, the government will be responsible if anything bad happens to Khaleda for lack of treatment.

He said during the current ‘crisis’ of the country, Khaleda Zia’s staying outside jail is essential for the sake of the country, its people and even for the incumbent government.

‘Khaleda Zia has been kept in jail by giving her punishment unlawfully through false case with political motive,’ the BNP secretary general said.

Asked whether BNP will appeal for Khaleda Zia’s release on parole, he said the BNP chief will be freed through legal process. ‘As she deserves bail, she will be freed through legal process.’

Replying to another question, he said there is no relation between BNP’s participation in parliament and release of Khaleda Zia from jail.

Among others, BNP leaders-Jamiruddin Sircar, Amir Khashru Mahmud Chowdhury and AZM Zahid Hossain were present.
