As Eid-ul-Fitr knocks at the door, shoppers on Friday went on shopping frenzy at  posh shopping malls and makeshift shops on footpaths in the capital.

Shoppers were busy buying festival garments for their near and dear ones on the weekend as they found it more convenient for Eid shopping.

Most of the renowned markets and shopping malls of the capital, including Bashundhara City Shopping Mall, Eastern Plaza, Metro Shopping Mall, Police Plaza and other posh markets were seen jam-packed with shoppers.

Like previous years, local apparel brands like Aarong, Sailor, Red, Monsoon Rain, Yellow, Kay Kraft, Plus Point, Ecstasy, Rex, Cats’ Eye, Anjan’s, O2, Bangla’r Mela, Shada Kalo, Silver Rain, Freeland, Infiniti, Westecs, Artisti, Gentle Park and shoe brands like Apex, Bay as well as other brands and non-brand shops were seen dominating the markets.

According to traders, males are crowding local brand outlets to collect traditional dresses like Punjabi, T-shirt, shoes and other necessary products while women are crowding to get new and trendy dresses.

Dipu Ahmed, a sales associate of S Fashion House in Bashundhara City,  said sales have picked up substantially as 10 days left to Eid. Girls’ dresses namely Sarara-Garara, Floor Touch, long gown, and some other attractive dress are on top of their shopping lists.

When asked about the prices, he said the prices are little bit higher due to high manufacturing cost and design. Girls’ dresses are available at between Tk 4000-25,000.

Both buyers and sellers have admitted that price of saris, shirts, jean pants and other popular dresses are higher than that of last year.
