Three-day country games and cultural programme today

A three-day Country Games and Cultural Programme will begin today at historical Paltan maidan as part of the 100th birth anniversary celebration of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, reports UNB. 

Bangladesh District & Divisional Sports Organisers Council (BDDSOC) and Bangladesh Country Games Association will jointly arrange the programme.

The event include seven traditional rural games of Bangladesh including Bali Khela, Lathi Khela, Ha-du-du, Daria bandha, Wrestling, Bull fight, Bouchi and folk songs including Jari gaan, Pat gaan, Lalon geeti, Puthi path, Maijvandari gaan, Maimansingha gitika.

BDDSOC secretary general Ashikur Rahman Miku disclosed the event at a press conference at Bangladesh Athletic Association conference hall on Thursday.

He said: “For the first time we are going to arrange the event for celebrating the 100th birthday of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. We have also decided to honour our seven legendary sports organisers from across the country.”

They are- Late Iqbal Khan (Chittagong), Late Dulu Afendi (Narayanganj), Late Abdur Rahman (Khulna), Braj Gopal Saha (Pabna), Mala Rani Sarker (Mymensingh), Ranjit Das (Sylhet) and Khan Tawhidul Islam (Narail), he said.

Besides, Bangladesh Country Games Association president and Channel I director (news) Shaikh Siraj, BDDSOC senior vice-president Siraj Uddin Alamgir, Bangladesh Sports Federation Forum president Asaduzzaman Kohinoor were also present during the press meet.

Bangladesh Olympic Association’s secretary general Syed Shahed Reza will formally inaugurate the event as the chief guest while Shaikh Siraj and Asaduzzaman Kohinoor will be present there as special guests.

The event will be concluded on April 14 at the same place. Chief advisor of BDDSOC and BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon is expected to be the chief guest of the closing ceremony while Bangladesh District and Divisional Football Association president Tarafder Md Ruhul Amin will be there as a special guest.
