Gazi glide past Shinepukur

Gazi Group Cricketers claimed their rain-hit Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) match against Shinepukur Cricket Club as Gazi won by 21 by virtue of D/L method at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital on Monday.

Batting first, Shinepukur amassed a meager total of 177 runs losing 9 wickets in 48 overs. After being severely delayed due to rain, Gazi Group commenced their chase. After 21.5 overs the play was finally forced to be called off due to torrential rain at which point Gazi were at 106 runs having lost 4 wickets whereas their D/L method revised target was 86 runs at 21.5 overs which meant Gazi took home full three points on the day.

Former young Indian sensation Unmukt Chand disappointed as Shinepukur went on to bat in the first innings as clawed himself unto the pitch scoring 13 runs off 50 delveries while Sabbir Hossain toked a speedy 24-runs knock. Shadman Islam came good at one-down for Gazi as the stylish batter managed to score 40 runs off 69 deliveries. None of the batters managed to put forth a sizable contribution apart from Delwar Hossain (40) and Sohrawordi Shuvo (30) duo who posted 46 runs on the board in their steady tail ender-style batting . 

Sanjit Saha took 4 wickets for Gazi giving away just 25 runs in his 10 overs.

In their reply, Gazi put the pedal on the throttle early in their innings resulting in Shamsur Rahman tonking a fifty worth 53 runs from 65 balls to seal the deal for his side.

Cutter-master Mustafizur Rahman showed his worth as he claimed 3 wickets for 23 runs for Gazi in the rain-decided affair.

Meanwhile, Mohammedan Sporting Club captain Raqibul Hasan hit a century as they beat Prime Bank Cricket Club by 133 runs by DL Method in their DPL encounter.

Mohammedan lost the toss and batted first in Savar.

They lost the first wicket in the first over when Irfan Sukkur fell for a golden duck. Liton Das and Avishek Mitra also fell quickly in spite of a good start. They scored 36 and 20 respectively.

Mohammad Ashraful and Nadif Chowdhury also followed them with their dismal show in the middle as they posted four and 11 only.

When they were struggling at 88 for five wickets, Raqibul and their Indian recruit Rajat Bhatia added 146 runs, helping Mohammedan to post 296 for nine wickets.

Rajat hit 66 while Raqibul struck 102 off 104 balls. Along with them, Sohag Gazi also starred with the bat as he posted 33 off 14.

For Prime Bank, Al Amin Hossain, Monir Hossain, Nayeem Hasan and Abdur Razzak took two wickets each.

While replying, Prime Bank scored 150 for nine wickets in 39.1 overs before rain forced the game to be stopped.

Anamul Haque, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Nahidul Islam scored 26, 22 and 28 respectively for Prime Bank.

Sohag scalped four wickets conceding 21 runs in seven overs. Mohammad Ashraful did surprisingly well with the ball, bagging three wickets for 37 runs in 10 overs.

Raqibul was adjudged the man of the match.

It was Mohammedan’s fifth win at the end of 10 rounds of the league. They are now at number five at the points table. On the other hand, Prime Bank suffered the third loss in the league, and are now at number three at the points table.

In the other match of the day, Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan Samity edged past Brothers Union by 12 runs courtesy of D/L method at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.
