Bangabandhu Cup Golf Open 2019 is all set to commence amid a festive environment at Kurmitola Golf Club in the capital from today.

The tournament will end on April 6.

Veteran Caribbean legend Gordon Greenidge will be attending the opening ceremony of the landmark golfing event of Bangladesh.

The trophy of the Bangabandhu Cup Golf Open 2019, an Asian Tour Professional Golf Tournament, was officially unveiled at Kurmitola Golf Club in the capital on Sunday.

Quarter Master General of Bangladesh Army Lt Gen Mohammad Shamsul Haque officially unveiled the tournament’s logo at a function at the Banquet Hall of Kurmitola Golf Club Sunday evening. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan Papon was also present on the occasion as special guest.

Senior Vice President of Bangloadesh Golf Federation (BGF) Major General Mohmamad Enayetullah, Executive Vice President of the meet’s organising committee and BGF Secretary General Brigadier General Md Sayeed Siddiki, Directors of the meet sponsors National Bank Limited Rick Haque Sikder, Ron Haque Sikder, Managing Director Mustaque Ahmed and Tournament Director Chokchai Boonprasert were also present on the occasion.

Earlier on Thursday, Chief of the Bangladesh Army and President of BGF General Aziz Ahmed unveiled the tournament’s logo at a function at the Banquet Hall of Kurmitola Golf Club.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and Vice-Chairman Safwan Sobhan Tasvir were present at the function as the special guests. 

Bashundhara Group, country’s largest business conglomerate was the title sponsor of the international professional golf event in the three previous editions.

Bollywood superstar Sanjay Dutt graced the event as the main attraction at the programme.

The tournament was earlier known as Bashundhara Bangladesh Open.

Singaporean golfer Mardan Mamat capped the first Bashundhara Bangladesh Open title in 2015 whereas Thailand’s Thitiphun Chuayprakong won the 2nd Bashundhara Bangladesh Open in 2016. Thailand’s Golfer Jazz Janewatta-nanond clinched the 3rd Bashundhara Bangladesh Open in 2017.

Professional golfers from America, Europe, Australia, Africa and Asia are expected to compete in the tournament from April 3- 6 at the Kurmitola Golf Club, being  held under the supervision of Bangladesh Golf Federation with the cooperation of Asian Tour. The Bangladesh stop has been a part of the Asian Tour since 2015, making this year’s the 5th staging of the tournament at KGC.

Some 40 professional and promising golfers from Bangladesh including six amateurs will get the opportunity to compete directly in the meet, sponsored by National Bank Limited.

Some 150 professional golfers, plus officials, delegates and TV crews from 22 countries will be part of the meet.
