BGB man on polls duty dies following cardiac arrest

BENAPOLE: A member of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) official died after suffering a cardiac arrest while performing upazila polls duty in Bagherpara Upazila of Jashore district on Saturday.

The dead was identified as Rafiqul Islam, 50, son of Ariful Islam of BGB-49 battalion.

Lt Col Selim Reza, commanding officer BGB-49 battalion, said that a BGB team of the battalion went to the auditorium of upazila parishad in the afternoon for performing duty.

Team member Rafiqul complained of chest pain around 10pm.

He was taken to Bagherpara Health Complex where doctors pronounced him dead.

Baghparpara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mizanur Rahman said that the BGB team came to Baghparpara on Friday for the purpose of conducting the fifth upazila parishad elections on Sunday and they stay in the auditorium of the Upazila Parishad.
