Jatiya Oikya Front candidates will file lawsuits with the election tribunal over alleged irregularities reported during the 11th parliamentary polls.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the candidates of the opposition coalition at BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in the capital on Thursday.

While speaking to reporters, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “All of our candidates will file lawsuits with the election tribunal rejecting the polls results and bringing allegations of vote rigging.”

He said they have already rejected the poll results and demanded rerun of the polls.

Replying to a question, the BNP secretary general said those elected in the parliamentary elections from the opposition alliance are not taking oath as they have rejected the election results.

Later, a delegation of the oikya front led by Mirza Fakhrul, went to the Election Commission where they submitted a memorandum demanding a fresh election under a non-party administration.

In Sunday’s parliamentary elections, BNP bagged only five seats while its Oikya Front partner Gano Forum got two seats.

At a meeting on Monday evening, Jatiya Oikya Front senior leaders turned down the election results and decided to submit a memorandum to the Election Commission with a demand for reelection.
