PD appointed for speedy power import from India

The government has appointed a Project Director (PD) to speed up import of 1600MW power from Indian Jharkhand, official confirmed. 

Md Sharfuddin, senior executive of Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) has been appointed as PD to supervise over the 100 kilometers gridline for facilitating the Adani’s power import.

The gridline will be installed between Chapainababganj and Bogura for electricity evacuation.  

The government is now importing 1160MW of electricity under government to government relation.

The government is expected to import the 1600MW Adani electricity by May, 2022.

With this total import of electricity from India will raise to 2760MW, official concern said.

The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) and Implementation Agreement (IA) with Adani on November 5, 2017.

In April 24, 2018, the Adani Power (Jharkhand) Ltd appointed EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractor. The company is expected to complete the power transmission line and sub-station soon.

In a recent meeting, Adani official admitted to the power division, they have already appointed 500 employees to complete the project properly.
