CHITTAGONG: Snatchers looted Tk 3.5 lakh injuring two employees of a business firm in the city’s Asadganj area on Wednesday.

Though police seized a CNG-run auto-rickshaw used by the snatchers following a chase, the criminals managed to flee.

Assistant Commissioner (AC-Kotwali) Jahangir Alam of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) said two staff members of dry fish trader Musa Sawdagor of Asadganj was going to deposit Tk 7 lakh to Khatunganj branch of Eastern Bank at around 1:00pm.

As they went some 200 yards off their firm, three armed raiders boarding a CNG-run auto-rickshaw intercepted them. The criminals stabbed and beat them up and made away with the bag which contained money.

They escaped by auto-rickshaw toward Chawk Bazar area at that time. A motorcyclist noticed the incident and started following the auto-rickshaw.

As the snatchers realised that someone was following them, they attempted to flee hurriedly. The reckless auto-rickshaw also hit a rickshaw in front of Chawk Bazar Police Station.

ASI Nazim of the police station noticed the incident and signalled the auto-rickshaw to stop. As the auto-rickshaw didn’t stop, Nazim started chasing it.

The snatchers climbed a hill leaving the auto-rickshaw after they reached Chatteshwari Road.
