THAKURGAON: Uni-dentified miscreants felled at least 20 eucalyptus trees by Bishrampur-Sidhor-Kolonda road in Baliadangi upazila in the small hours of Monday for pilfering, reports UNB.

The miscreants, however, fled the scene leaving a tree-laden trolley behind as police rushed to the spot on information of local people.

Sources said 25 locals planted at least 5,000 eucalyptus trees along 5km areas of Bishrampur-Sidhor-Kolonda road with the help of forestry department in 2003 for 10 years.

According to the contract with forestry department the money obtained from selling those trees will be distributed among the villagers and them equally.

The validity of the contract expired four years ago but the forestry department did not take any initiative for felling that tress. Abdul Aziz, sub-inspector of Baliadangi Police Station, confirmed the matter.
