Residents of Bhola and Hatiya upazilas in Noakhali on Friday demanded new launch services on Dhaka-Char Fasson and Dhaka-Hatiya routes to ensure safe travels for thousands of people of the areas.
The made the demand at a human chain in front of the National Press Club in the capital Around 100 people of Char Fasson, Monpura, Dawlatkhan of Bhola and Haitya took part in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, they said launches are the main mode of transport in the areas crisscrossed by rivers. But only few launches of ‘Tipu Company’ are operating on the routes which is very insufficient compared to the demand.
They also alleged that the launches of ‘Tipu Company’ have failed to ensure proper service for its passengers.
Moreover, the launch staffs allegedly harass the passengers and demand extra money from them.
Businessman Maksud Maltiya, college teacher Hazrat Ali, journalist Kalam Fayzi, director of ‘Tilottoma’ Fojiya Aktar and businessman Sheikh Borhanuddin, among others, also spoke.
