Voters can know about the distribution date and place of their smart NID card through website, short message service (SMS) and by dialing a hotline number of the Election Commission.
The process of providing smart NID cards, replacing the existing laminated ones, will start tomorrow with a formal launch by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The voters of two city corporations and Fulbari upazila of Kurigram will be started from October 3.
SM Asaduzzaman, director (PR) of the Election Commission (EC) secretariat, said the EC introduced three different procedures to inform the voters about the distribution date and place of smart NID cards.
Voters can get information about the distribution date and centre of Smart NID Card by logging on the website www.nidw.gov.bd and calling to a single hotline number ‘105’.
The NID number, date of birth or form number and date of birth of voters will be needed to know the information, he added.
Besides, voters can also be able to know the NID disburse location and date by giving text to the hotline number.
To know the date and location, a voter will have to type SC followed by a space, his or her 17 digit national identity card number (13 digit NID card holders have to write birth year at first) and send the SMS to 105.
According to EC statistics, 90 million of the total 100 million voters of the country will get Smart NID Card.
The EC is hopeful of reaching the smart cards to all the voters of the country by December 2017 before the World Bank deadline for the exercise expires.
