FARIDPUR: Six hours after a physician declared it dead, a newborn baby was found alive while being buried at Alipur graveyard of the district town on Thursday morning, reports UNB.
Advocate Najnin Akhter Popy, wife of local cricketer Najmul Huda Mithu of Kamlapur area of the town, was taken to Dr Jahid Memorial Child Hospital in the district town around 12:30 am after she complained of labour pain.
Popy gave birth to a baby girl through normal delivery, said her father-in-law Abul Kalam Miah.
However, Rezia Alam, a physician of the hospital, declared the baby dead two hours after its birth, he said.
Talking to reporters, Alipur graveyard custodian Haji Abdur Rob said the family members took the baby in a carton to the graveyard at night for burial. However, he asked them to come in the morning.
Later, they left the graveyard keeping the carton
with the baby inside it at a grave.
The family members and locals again came to the graveyard in the morning to bury the girl. However, it cried out when the carton was opened.
Later, the baby girl was taken to the same hospital.Baby’s father Mithu said the incident took place because of the negligence of the doctor and their associates.
Contacted, Dr Rezia said she declared the baby dead as she did not find its pulse even though a long time passed after it was born.
Joint secretary of the hospital’s managing committee Salauddin Farid said a probe body will be formed to look into the matter.
Faridpur Civil Surgeon Dr Arun Kanti Bishwas said they will also investigate the matter.
