A Dhaka court on Thursday issued warrants for the arrest of 14 BNP leaders and activists, including its vice-chairman Selima Rahman, in an arson attack case filed with Pallabi police station last year.
Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order after following acceptance of charge-sheets brought against them.
Shimul Biswas and Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel, personal assistant and press secretary to party chairperson Khaleda Zia, and party leaders Syeda Asifa Ashrafi Papiya, Azizul Bari Helal and Mir Sharafat Ali Safu were among the 14 BNP leaders.
The court also directed the officer-in-charge of Pallabi police station to submit a report about the court order on November 2.
On February 2, 2015, a vehicle was set afire in front of Appayan Community Centre in Pallabi, Mirpur, during the non-stop hartal and blockade programme enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
